Travel Dispatch: Some Good News (Finally) About Airline Refunds
Dear Travel Fan, This week, the Biden administration announced new rules for airline passenger refunds when flights are delayed or canceled, as well as for how fees must be communicated to travelers. It was a step forward for consumers and we explained what the new rules mean for you. Maui was hit hard by wildfires last year, and we put this classic Hawaiian destination on our 52 Places to Go list for 2024 because we felt visitors could help in its economic recovery. This week our 36 Hours column has suggestions for how to spend your time there, with new cocktail bars, exciting outrigger canoe tours and Indigenous art exhibits that reveal the community’s creativity and resilience. Monday of this past week was Earth Day and we helped celebrate with a look at what you need to know to visit a national park in the U.S. this year. We also visit a remote island off the coast of Africa where thousands of turtles hatch each year. Could it become a site for turtle tourism? This week also saw Shakespeare’s birthday. The playwright was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, 460 years ago. Each year millions of tourists visit what is billed as his birthplace. But, in fact, there is almost no evidence that he was actually born in the house. We took a look behind the myth. Our Tripped Up column tries to help out a reader whose bus trip was canceled by Megabus, which then kept the service fee it had charged him to book. The dollar amount was small, but the principle is large. Finally, in Rome, the writer David Laskin traces the history and path of the Aqua Marcia aqueduct, a marvel of early engineering. Wishing you safe and happy journeys, Amy Virshup Continue reading the main story

The writer David Laskin followed an ancient Roman aqueduct nearly 60 miles from its source in the countryside to the heart of the city. Roberto Salomone for The New York Times Dear Travel Fan, This week, the Biden administration announced new rules for airline passenger refunds when flights are delayed or canceled, as well as for how fees must be communicated to travelers.
