The Story Behind Field Company's Name

When it came to naming Field Company in 2015, my brother and I decided to follow the lead of Griswold and Wagner. They were two iconic vintage cast iron companies, and both used family names. The Field family name comes from our mother and grandmother, Betsy Field. That lineage is how we initially got our hands on vintage cast iron (as well as a taste for good eating).
Our brand mark, a shield, is inspired by an old Field family crest—with secondary marks you may have seen on our packaging or special edition pans that reference bundles of wheat. We chose the shield because our goal has always been to make strong, enduring products—and it doesn't hurt that Betsy had a love of medieval history.
On closer inspection, you'll notice that the hanging hole on Field handles is also shaped like a shield—a small detail that serves as a little sign from us: our products have the strength to last forever and to support you—with small touches of craft. After all, when you're choosing tools that will live forever, choose the best.
