How to raise resilient kids.

If you’re a parent, you know how challenging it can feel to raise healthy, resilient kids in today’s world.

Navigating all the noise around parenting advice can feel overwhelming, confusing, and downright impossible. It feels especially difficult to find a holistic perspective that doesn’t create more stress than solutions.

Truthfully, I think our culture has really overcomplicated this.

And while I’m not an expert, I think over the years, with 3 kids, I’m starting to see a common thread that has simplified my perspective. There’s a lot of overlap between the choices I make for my own health and what my kids need.

Here’s a quick breakdown to show you what I mean:

→ Gentle Detox: just as our bodies need to detox, so do kids. There are plenty of gentle detox methods that kids enjoy, find interesting, and benefit from.

→ Time in Nature: we know that time in nature deeply heals and calms our nervous system. Kids can become easily overstimulated, and time spent in nature supports healthy stress regulation.

→ Eating Whole Foods: kids’ packaged foods are some of today’s most unhealthy foods. Kids need more unprocessed, nutrient-dense foods in their natural form.

→ Play: kids thrive when they’re given space to use their imagination. They develop unique hobbies and find what brings them joy.

→ Mindfulness of Circadian Rhythms: circadian rhythms are important for regulating hormones and supporting deep sleep, which kids need for proper development. Eating in tune with the sun and getting adequate natural light is essential.

→ Emotional Support: as kids grow, they constantly experience new situations that can bring up a lot of emotions. I believe in creating an open, safe environment where we can talk.

→ Movement: just as it does for adults, moving helps kids’ circulation, lymphatic system, cardiovascular health, digestion, mood, and more.

These pillars of holistic health easily apply to (and benefit) our little ones, too. This makes your job much easier as a parent if you’re already living a holistic lifestyle (win!).

Yes, it takes effort.

Yes, it takes intention.

But at the root of it all, it’s about helping them build healthy habits – modeling those habits for them and setting intentional boundaries and guidelines.

You can do it! No matter what the world tells you, we can take back the health of our kids and set them up to thrive.
