But what makes Swift Satin the perfect travel fabric? It’s a unique combination of versatility in aesthetic, airy structure, durable construction and easy care on the go. Let’s dive into the details!

1. A Functional Fiber

Crepe was traditionally made from silk, a beautiful fabric with lovely drape. Unfortunately, it’s incredibly delicate in both wear and care, let alone its wrinkle-prone nature. Triacetate crepe (a cellulosic fiber) was used by apparel makers more recently in an attempt to solve this, but it too is susceptive to wrinkling due to its hygroscopic nature.

For Swift Satin, we’ve instead opted for durable polyester (67% recycled) that gives you machine (and hotel sink) washability, along with best-in-class wrinkle, pilling and abrasion resistance compared to traditional fabrics. The end result is ultra-packable clothing that requires minimal upkeep - tailor-made for work trips.

2. More than a Twist

Normally, fabrics are made by lightly twisting filaments (long continuous fibers) or staple fibers (shorter fibers like cotton) together. In practice, this twist can cause a garment to “torque” or rotate - you may see this in lower-grade t-shirts, where the side seam is no longer at your side.

Our solution to this issue is elegantly simple - we simply add an opposing twist to stabilize the fabric:

Fun fact: the individual yarns above are called “S” and “Z” twist yarns based on the direction they were twisted when viewed from the side.

But what makes crepe really special is it features a “high-twist” yarn - making the fiber stronger and more durable, preventing abrasion and shrinkage. After these twisted yarns are woven, the fibers relax slightly, curling on themselves to create crepe’s signature texture and airy structure. Finally, a heat-setting process “locks in” the structure, which also helps to minimize shrinkage over extended washes and wears.

3. Dual Textures

One of our favorite things about Swift Satin (and the most noticeable difference from our previous Swift pieces) is its two unique aesthetics. Where traditional fabrics feature conventional tightly-woven yarn with a uniform texture, Swift Satin is constructed with a crepe front and more conventional yarn on the back side, resulting in matte and satin surface textures. Compared to classic woven fabrics, the loft created by the crepe yarns allows hot and humid air to flow out of the garment, keeping you cool through active commutes and hot travel days.

A Functional Fiber Crepe was traditionally made from silk, a beautiful fabric with lovely drape. Unfortunately, it’s incredibly delicate in both wear and care, let alone its wrinkle-prone nature. Triacetate crepe (a cellulosic fiber) was used by apparel makers more recently in an attempt to solve this, but it too is susceptive to wrinkling due to its hygroscopic nature. A close up spotlights Swift Satin’s matte/sheen sides and elegant drape For Swift Satin, we’ve instead opted for durable polyester (67% recycled) that gives you machine (and hotel sink) washability, along with best-in-class wrinkle, pilling and abrasion resistance compared to traditional fabrics. The end result is ultra-packable clothing that requires minimal upkeep - tailor-made for work trips. 2. More than a Twist Normally, fabrics are made by lightly twisting filaments (long continuous fibers) or staple fibers (shorter fibers like cotton) together. In practice, this twist can cause a garment to “torque” or rotate - you may see this in lower-grade t-shirts, where the side seam is no longer at your side. Our solution to this issue is elegantly simple - we simply add an opposing twist to stabilize the fabric: Fun fact: the individual yarns above are called “S” and “Z” twist yarns based on the direction they were twisted when viewed from the side. But what makes crepe really special is it features a “high-twist” yarn - making the fiber stronger and more durable, preventing abrasion and shrinkage. After these twisted yarns are woven, the fibers relax slightly, curling on themselves to create crepe’s signature texture and airy structure. Finally, a heat-setting process “locks in” the structure, which also helps to minimize shrinkage over extended washes and wears. 3. Dual Textures One of our favorite things about Swift Satin (and the most noticeable difference from our previous Swift pieces) is its two unique aesthetics. Where traditional fabrics feature conventional tightly-woven yarn with a uniform texture, Swift Satin is constructed with a crepe front and more conventional yarn on the back side, resulting in matte and satin surface textures. Compared to classic woven fabrics, the loft created by the crepe yarns allows hot and humid air to flow out of the garment, keeping you cool through active commutes and hot travel days.
