NEW RELEASE - 2021 Tinta Cao

We haven't talked about Tinta Cao for a long time - and it's time to bring this beauty into the spotlight. This vibrant Portuguese variety is bright and juicy and so moreish right now. Really great Autumn drinking.

Flavours of ripe raspberry and mulberry with just the right amount of bright acidity and a pinch of warm spice. Great length of flavour that will have you looking for a second glass.

Delicious with prosciutto and antipasto platters. Also pairs beautifully with asparagus - which is not in season yet - but good to remember if you can wait until Spring. Hmmm - maybe you should get two bottles.

2020 Graciano
Graciano is a Spanish variety traditionally blended with Tempranillo (and we have a delicious blend you can try) but we have always loved showing off the beauty of Graciano as a single varietal.

Deep ruby in colour with lavish scents of ripe blackberries, bay leaf, fresh tobacco. Medium bodied with a generous flavour of juicy forest berries, cherry plums and dark spice. A sprinkling of bay and a touch of savoury earthiness in the mix as well.

It's unusual to find Graciano as a straight varietal and this vintage really captures the balance and lifted spiciness of Graciano with a juicy mouthfeel.

What's been happening in the vineyard?

It's been bloody dry.

Waiting for rain
In anticipation of dry conditions we enlarged our main dam in 2021 during COVID lockdowns. Everyday this year we've been thankful for that foresight and been able to water the vines right through the heat. Although we have water to the vineyard, all the paddocks and the surrounding bush are very dry. Feed for animals is scarce and every night we are visited by mobs of kangaroos who are eating the vine leaves and green pick along the rows.

Feral pigs have been coming down from the bush each night rooting up any damp spot they can find under the vines - and our lawn. The little buggers.

We've been worried about the reduction of our frog population during the drought. This is a motorbike frog at the dam.

We also have Moaning frogs active at the farm now.

This is Glen Mervyn Dam, (NOT OUR DAM) the main waterbody that feeds the Preston River which runs past us and supplies many local orchards and farms. It's a popular water skiing spot too - obviously not for a long while yet. Photo taken 18 March 2024 at 6.2% capacity. Credit Blocky Anderson.

This beautiful giant jarrah on the farm has been dropping lots of seeds over the past month. We've collected some and will attempt to get them growing for winter. Fingers crossed. We'll keep you updated.

In anticipation of dry conditions we enlarged our main dam in 2021 during COVID lockdowns. Everyday this year we've been thankful for that foresight and been able to water the vines right through the heat.  Although we have water to the vineyard, all the paddocks and the surrounding bush are very dry. Feed for animals is scarce and every night we are visited by mobs of kangaroos who are eating the vine leaves and green pick along the rows.</div>

NEW RELEASE - 2021 Tinta Cao

We haven't talked about Tinta Cao for a long time - and it's time to bring this beauty into the spotlight. This vibrant Portuguese variety is bright and juicy and so moreish right now. Really great Autumn drinking.

Flavours of ripe raspberry and mulberry with just the right amount of bright acidity and a pinch of warm spice. Great length of flavour that will have you looking for a second glass.

Delicious with prosciutto and antipasto platters. Also pairs beautifully with asparagus - which is not in season yet - but good to remember if you can wait until Spring. Hmmm - maybe you should get two bottles.

Deep ruby in colour with lavish scents of ripe blackberries, bay leaf, fresh tobacco. Medium bodied with a generous flavour of juicy forest berries, cherry plums and dark spice. A sprinkling of bay and a touch of savoury earthiness in the mix as well.

It's unusual to find Graciano as a straight varietal and this vintage really captures the balance and lifted spiciness of Graciano with a juicy mouthfeel.

What's been happening in the vineyard?

It's been bloody dry.
Waiting for rain
In anticipation of dry conditions we enlarged our main dam in 2021 during COVID lockdowns. Everyday this year we've been thankful for that foresight and been able to water the vines right through the heat. Although we have water to the vineyard, all the paddocks and the surrounding bush are very dry. Feed for animals is scarce and every night we are visited by mobs of kangaroos who are eating the vine leaves and green pick along the rows.

Feral pigs have been coming down from the bush each night rooting up any damp spot they can find under the vines - and our lawn. The little buggers.

We've been worried about the reduction of our frog population during the drought. This is a motorbike frog at the dam.

Our avenue of lemon-scented gums carry the scars of the March 2023 hail storm pock marked by the force of the stones on their trunks (left). Image on the right shows the undamaged protected side of the trees.

This is Glen Mervyn Dam, (NOT OUR DAM) the main waterbody that feeds the Preston River which runs past us and supplies many local orchards and farms. It's a popular water skiing spot too - obviously not for a long while yet. Photo taken 18 March 2024 at 6.2% capacity. Credit Blocky Anderson.

This beautiful giant jarrah on the farm has been dropping lots of seeds over the past month. We've collected some and will attempt to get them growing for winter. Fingers crossed. We'll keep you updated.
